It's interesting to see the batik trade in progress. The master craftsman dips his cant (a copper-tipped hollow pen with an opening) into the pot of wax, filling it, and applies it onto the fabric. The molten liquid then hardens. You may also try your hand at making batik!

The following are some Malaysian ethnic crafts that you can find at the Craft Cultural Complex Kuala Lumpur.
- Batik -- a versatile fabric featuring hand-painted or block motifs available in traditional and contemporary designs. You can choose from the beautiful range of sarongs, pareos, shirts, dresses and scarves as well as cushion covers, tablecloth, napkins and place mats.
- Songket -- local brocade that is intricately handwoven with silver or gold threads. Rich and heavily embroidered, the cloth makes superb evening gowns. Have a look at the Songket hangbags and purses. It's gorgeous!
- Silver -- local silver fashioned into beautiful jewellery and intricate adornments such as brooches, bracelets, pendants, necklaces and earrings. You can also get silver tableware including beautifully crafted tea-sets, tray and bowls.
- Pewterware -- exquisitely crafted pewterware is available as beer tankards, goblets, tea and coffee sets, picture frames, clocks vases and other decorative items.
- Woodcarvings -- fascinating Kuala Lumpur woodcarvings include the aboriginal woodcarvings of the orang asli or indigenous people of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia.
- Pottery and Ceramic -- crafted pieces that come mainly from the states of Sarawak and Perak. Sarawak pottery is easily distinguished by their unmistakable ethnic markings and come in a range of vases from big to small. The National Craft Day 2007 (Hari Kraf Kebangsaan 2007) was held from 6th to 18th March 2007 at the Craft Cultural Complex Kuala Lumpur. Despite, my busy schedule, I managed to have a sneak peak at the Kompleks Budaya Kraf at Jalan Conlay.
It was raining in the morning, so we took the Chevy to Kuala Lumpur. Alas! The place was jam-packed with cars,
taxis and tourist buses! Some cars were seen parking on the sidewalks and yes, there was a policeman issuing
summons!! But, we need to park our car somewhere......
