Dataran Merdeka Fountain
The Dataran Merdeka fountain is so exquisite! If you've been to Dataran Merdeka, you should have notice those beautiful and unique fountains.
Actually, there are two fountains at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.
The old ornamental fountain and drinking trough was ordered from England by the Sanitary Board. The fountain was brought in from England and assembled locally in 1897.
The fountain was originally erected at Market Square, but was moved upon objection from the police as it obstructed the flow of traffic. The new location of the antique fountain is on the left corner of the Dataran Merdeka, just in front of the National History Museum.
I'm not sure what kind of creatures been depicted around the base of the old fountain. Looks like dogs but could it be lions? Have a close look yourself, and if you think you know the name of the creatures, please tell me about it.
And, if you're visiting Dataran Merdeka, do take the opportunity to snap some pictures with the old fountain. Touch it. It's more than a 100 years old!
The new Dataran Merdeka fountain is located on the other side of Dataran Merdeka, in front of the City Hall building. This fancy fountain is shaped like a type of local plant known as Periuk Kera. I don't know the scientific name of the plant. But, it's a special kind of plant that traps insects and digest them!
This fountain area has elegant colonnades and colourful rows of zinnias and marigolds. It's a really nice place to rest after a day's trip. Indeed, it's another beautiful location for taking pictures.
