Fun @ Kepong Metropolitan Park

Zaly happened to pass the famous kiting area in Kuala Lumpur one evening, and managed to capture a few pictures of the kiting activity using his camera phone. The photos are nice but not enough. And... I want to get more!

Since then, we have been passing the Kepong Metropolitan Park by car on many weekends, but we never stop. The entrance to the park was always congested with cars! I managed to snapshot some photos of the kiting scene from our car. But... it was still not enough!

I was delighted every time I saw all sort of kites, small and large, in plain and vibrant colours.... flying high in the sky. It would be great if I can take a close snapshots of the activities in the park.

Kite Enthusiast Paradise

So... today, we rode our bike and head to the Kepong Metropolitan Park. There were so many kites of various shapes and sizes on sale at the car park! In addition to kites, you can also get kites accessories here. It looked like a kite shopping paradise to me.

The Kepong Metropolitan Park was already jam-packed with cars and motorcycles. Beside the kite traders, there were many food & drink sellers, as well as ice-cream men on bikes. I could really sense a kind of festivity mood in the park.

The Flag Kite Man @Kepong Metropolitan Park

And, I noticed a man with an enormous kite, made of fibre and creatively stitched with six Malaysian flags! The man looked like a really serious kite enthusiast. Another unique thing about this man was, he used a fishing pole to control his kite!

But.... can the big kite flies? Yes... it can! I saw the flag kite flown but it was not so high. And, only for a short time. I guess it was because the day was not so windy. I left the man with the flag kite and sat on the grass. It was a perfect place to capture some kiting photos.

Family Fun For All

Children and parents were seen running accross the field, trying to raise their colorful kites. It was really fun watching them!

If you're going to the Kepong Metropolitan Park to join the kiting crowd, you can enter through the first entrance, just after the Stesen Pemindahan Sisa Pepejal Taman Beringin.

But, this park is not only meant for kiting. You can go fishing, jogging, cycling, having a picnic or just enjoy the crowds and the beautiful sceneries.

Viewing Tower

We spent about half an hour at the kiting field and proceeded to the second entrance. We circled the lake on our bike! And.. the lake was so gorgeous and huge.

In the middle of the park, there is a viewing tower about four-storey high. We climbed the stairs and on the second floor, we stopped. The view of the lake from the platform was very breathtaking. I want to go up to the top platform but Zaly was feeling a bit dizzy. I guess he was having Hypsiphobia - the fear of height!
