Kota Darul Ehsan
Kota Darul Ehsan is a marble arch symbolizing the border on Malaysian Federal Highway between the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian state of Selangor. Erected on route 2, it is the biggest arch in Malaysia. You are most likely to drive past the arch on your way from Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya, or vice versa.
The arch was commissioned by the late Sultan of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah , to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Sultan, government and people of Selangor as a result of giving up KL to the Federal Government on 1st February, 1974.
Built along one of the busiest roads in the country, the Federal Highway, the arch's Moorish influence
is flanked by cannons on both sides and subtle light effects which bathes the arch in a warm glow at night. The 4 cannons at the base of the arch are over 100 years old and were taken from the fort at Kuala Selangor.
At the top of the arch, you can see two Malaysian flags, two Selangor flags and four state crests.
It was was constructed at the cost of RM4.4 million and was officially opened by the late Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah) on 3rd January, 1982.
The beauty of the arch lasts even after the sun sets, as bright lights shine and illuminates the royal gold colours and leaves a beautiful effect on the landmark. At night, the Kota Darul Ehsan arch creates a spellbinding effect to travellers on the highway with its illumination of royal gold colours.
