Monitor Foreign Workers
Malaysia will soon introduce a Foreign Workers Bill which proposes confining foreigners to their work premises under constant monitoring to prevent rising crime. The bill required employers to provide proper accommodations at the workplace, where it is properly monitored.
The foreign workers bill would provide legislation to oversee Malaysia's 2.6 million foreign workers and ensure they "do not go astray." Around 80,000 to 200,00 Filipino workers, including illegals, are in Malaysia, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
Under the plan, foreign workers, the majority of whom are contract workers, will be placed in their kongsi (workers quarters) at (their) work site and have their activities monitored by the contractor, even after working hours.
Crimes committed by foreign workers have escalated, with about 5,000 criminal acts committed by foreigners last year, which accounted for about two per cent of the 232,620 cases recorded.

Don't Flash In KL
According to Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, whoever commits any obscene act in public to the annoyance of others can be punished with imprisonment of up to three months or with a fine or both.
Many women have encountered a flasher in their lifetime but many of these flashers get away with their crime. Maybe the women were too shock with the obscene acts to report. However, if you bump into a flasher in KL, don't panic. Make a mental note of their looks, car plate numbers and if you have a camera phone, capture the flasher in action. Then, report to the police.
The flasher will be fined RM2,000 or 3 months jail in default!

Yes, it's 'aint free dude. The Smart Tunnel is an alternative route which is built under the existing roads. Therefore, you'll need to pay for the service of getting you to your destination faster.

Rain's Gone, Drought's Coming
Kuala Lumpur and other parts of Klang Valley is expected to experience a major El Nino which will cause a prolonged drought soon. Based on the weather patterns, the prolonged drought was expected to be happened from July till October.
But don’t worry about the coming drought. There’s enough water in our dams to face another major drought like the one in 1997. Most of the major rivers and tributaries - the main source of water, are also full due to the recent rainy season.
According to the Drainage and Irrigation Department director-general Datuk Dr Keizrul Abdullah,
"We have enough water in our dams, even if there’s not a single drop of rain for the next three months"
In 1997, we had the worst prolonged drought in Kuala Lumpur that caused the water level dropped to a dangerously low level in rivers and dams. As a result, strict water rationing was carried out. I still remember how I waited in a long queue to get a pail of water from the water tankers which only visited our area at 6pm every day.

The next time you are at the dentist, you could be tasting a peppermint, strawberry or bubble-gum flavoured glove!
Dentists in the West prefer flavoured gloves as their patients dislike the smell of rubber. The Top Glove’s flavoured range has been a popular export to these countries.
But it is not just dentists. Thanks to high demand from increasingly safety and hygiene-conscious developing countries, Top Glove’s production of a wide range of gloves, such as surgical, natural rubber and synthetic gloves, are selling like hot cakes, boosting the company’s growth and the country’s exports.
When it started in 1991, Top Glove had three production lines in a small factory in Klang, with 200 employees. It now has 279 production lines in 16 factories located in Malaysia, Thailand and China, with over 8,000 employees. It produces 25 billion pieces of gloves annually.

Congestion Charges In KL?
Kuala Lumpur’s motorists may soon be paying congestion charges through a gantry-based system being studied by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA).
The gantry system, being considered for use on toll highways, could be extended to Kuala Lumpur’s recently proposed road pricing system. The high-speed drive-through toll collection system is being considered as a way to cut down on delays at highway toll booths.
The gantry system would allow you to drive through at higher speeds than currently using the Touch ‘n’ Go contact-less smartcard or the Smart Tag electronic toll collection system.
The Smart Tag lane has a speed limit of 40km an hour, compared to the average highway speed limit of 110km an hour.
The plan to charge motorists for using Kuala Lumpur’s most congested roads was proposed last month, as a way to reduce traffic.
The MHA will take about a year to study the gantry system. The study on the "multi-lane free flow electronic toll collection" will include input from the police, Road Transport Department and the Public Works Department to ensure enforcement between the agencies is integrated.
The system is similar to what Singapore, Australia, Europe, Britain and the US use for electronic road pricing systems and toll collection. It can save time, do away with long queues at toll plazas and remove toll collectors, thus, easing congestion.
The gantry system could cut an estimated 10 to 60 seconds from Touch ‘n’ Go or Smart Tag transactions, and requires you to have on-board transponders similar to the Smart Tag, but which uses microwave pulses and Doppler radar instead of infra-red communications.
When the vehicle passes under the gantry, toll charges are deducted from the value stored in prepaid smart card.

SriLankan Airlines
SriLankan Airlines carried a record number of passengers from Saudi Arabia to Malaysia during the second half of 2006, with over 3,500 travellers choosing the carrier for flights into Kuala Lumpur.
The combination of world recognised service, competitive fares with convenient departure and arrival times is believed to allow the airline to cement its position as the carrier of choice for passengers flying from Dammam and Riyadh into Kuala Lumpur.
SriLankan Airlines has shown that it is by far the favourite airline for flyers travelling from Saudi to Malaysia, as reflected in the growth of their bookings. It offers the fastest connecting flights to Kuala Lumpur from Dammam and Riyadh, with a transit time of only one hour at Colombo. The direct flights from it's hub into the Malaysian capital arrive at 13:00, which is an ideal arrival time for checking into hotels and the return flights depart at 13:50, which is perfect for checking out.
In addition to the Saudi services, SriLankan Airlines also offers five flights per week from Bahrain to Colombo and connecting Malaysian flights, and customers living in Saudi's eastern province find this to be more convenient.
Starting February 2007 SriLankan Airlines is offering a range of special promotional airfares to Kuala Lumpur that are available for customers to commemorate Malaysia's fiftieth year of independence.
SriLankan Airlines has received numerous industry accolades for its products and services over the past few years. It has been voted Central Asia's Airline of the Year for four consecutive years and independent research from Skytrax UK, the world's leading airline travel guide, has found the on-board staff to be the world's friendliest cabin crew.
The carrier has also been awarded the title; 'World's Best Airline', in a survey of Economy class passengers. It was also recently second runner-up for the best overall in-flight entertainment at the World Airline Entertainment Association's annual awards

Making KL A Better Place
The Federal Territories Ministry and City Hall are studying the possibility of making drivers of private vehicles pay to use certain streets during peak hours to reduce traffic jams. Public transport will be improved before the "pay-to-enter" charge is imposed on motorists.
The city will be working to provide more open space and green areas for residents. There are also plans to have facilities for family activities at Lake Gardens, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa and the Metropolitan lakes in Kepong and Batu.
More birds and facilities will be added to attract city folk and tourists, both local and foreign, to the Lake Gardens.
Uniformed bodies have complained of a lack of outdoor sites. Therefore, City Hall has identified an area in Bukit Kiara to hold jamborees, and a place for camping with a stream for water activities.
The City Hall will build proper stadiums for major sports and provide a budget for sports associations, along with certain facilities such as office space.
City Hall will work with the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry to preserve old buildings and sites.

Budget Flying Is Big!
Almost a million more passengers thronged the arrival and departure halls of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last year than in 2005. About 24.1 million passengers went through the KLIA and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal that it launched in March last year.
That’s a four per cent increase over the 23.2 million passengers it saw in 2005, according to a preliminary report by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad. The LCCT alone saw 4.6 million passengers, about half of its capacity of 10 million.
Ten years ago, the majority of Malaysians travelled by bus, car or trains, those who had a little bit more money could fly with Malaysia Airlines.
Now everyone can fly for the same price that they pay for a bus ticket. It all depends on how much you want to pay.
