National Museum Renovation

The construction hoardings around the National Museum have been taken down, indicating that the 44-year-old building is nearing completion of its 18-month renovation.

The National Museum has recorded a 30 per cent increase in the number of visitors since the renovation.

The galleries display an exhibition on the arrival of Western powers and their administration in Malaya.

The RM20 million facelift, which began last June, is 70 per cent complete, according to the Department of Museums deputy director-general Paiman Keromo.

The museum, which is the keeper of 250,000 artifacts, is now in its third phase of renovation, its first upgrading since opening its doors in 1963.

The renovation is aimed at raising the National Museum to international standards.

Galleries C and D, which showcased weapons, musical instruments and Malaysian flora and fauna, have been given a more contemporary look with Information Communication Technology features added.

With all the refurbishment, Muzium Negara is expected to have a brand-new look by early next year.
