Butterflies are beautiful creatures. In Kuala Lumpur, you can have a close encounter with those colorful insects at the KL Butterfly Park. The vibrant colors and patterns on the wings of butterflies have earned them the fanciful nickname, "flying flowers."
The Butterfly Park is just a stone's throw away from the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. And, it houses more than 6,000 butterflies from 120 exotic species! The different species of butterflies comes from Africa, Malaysia, South America, Thailand, New Guinea, Costa Rica, the Philippines, and other countries.
Butterflies Natural Habitat
More than 15,000 plants from 100 species (flower and fruit plants and some rare herbs) have been used to re-created the butterflies natural habitat (the rainforest atmosphere).

Inside the park, there is a uniquely designed hydro-pond built with a limestone path right in the centre. Surrounding this hydro-pond is a gazebo. The views from the gazebo are spectacular.
You can also find a nursery and breeding area for the butterflies. Here you can learn about the life cycle and mating habit of the butterflies.
Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park includes both preserved and live specimens, totaling 1,230 species in all. Facilities include an informative insect museum.
There is also a souvenir shop near the exit selling lots of local handicrafts and framed butterflies and beetles.

Butterflies are most active on warm and sunny days with little wind, because they require the heat of the sun to aid in their digestion. On rainy days, they usually hide in the flowers and leaves.

You can see the butterfly's resting on the leaves of the plants. Sometimes they rest on you!

Here's a tip. Wear bright-colored or bright-white clothing and put on a light floral perfume before visiting. Butterflies are attracted to a bright colorful print shirt for the same reason they are attracted to flowers.

But, please don't touch those little winged creatures. The oil in our skin will cause damage to their sensitive wings.

Adult butterflies live only one to two weeks, on average, during which time they must produce a new generation. Some species like the familiar Monarch butterfly, however, can live as long as six months in the wild.
