The National Museum Kuala Lumpur offers you site-seeing pleasure from all corners. When outside, you are invited to view the many structures and exhibits, free of charge.
At the Transportation Shed, you can see some old forms of transportation such as old locomotives and vintage cars on display. You can also find a bull cart from Malacca, with its distinctive upturned roof and also pedal trishaws that are still being used in Penang.
Impressive Exhibits
- Bull Cart
The beautiful bull carts at museum is believed to have been introduced by the Indian merchants in Malacca Sultanate around the 15th century. This particular Minangkabau bull cart looks like the American Wagon.
- Steam Locomotive
This antique locomotive was made by the Kitson & Co., England. It was first put into service at the railway of East Coast in Kelantan from 1921 until November 1969.
- Austin Seven
This dashing Austin Seven at National Museum Kuala Lumpur was designed by Sir Herbert Austin. This vehicle was one of the best of a series of 27,280 cars and was manufactured in 1935.
- Proton Saga
Proton Saga is the first National Car of Malaysia. It was manufactured by Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (PROTON) in 1985. This car was among the 30 cars that were manufactured during the test-run stage.
Around the National Museum Kuala Lumpur grounds, you will find exquisite monuments and statues on display. Look out for the replica of an ancient Malay palace on the ground. The palace is known as Istana Satu (First Palace) and is built on stilts. It is a simple and airy wooden structure with beautiful decorative wood carvings.
If you have a closer look at the Muzium Negara's building, you'll notice that the building itself is an architectural work of art and offers many viewing pleasure.
- Archway
The very archway which was completed in 1934 was made in Kampung Atas Banggul, Kelantan.
- Kuala Kedah Archway
The oldest existing Malay forts made from stones and mortar. This fort was built during the reign of Sultan Abdullah Mukarram Shah to protect Kedah from Siamese attack.
- Istana Satu
Istana Satu is of Terengganu Malay Traditional Architecture in the form called "Rumah Tiang Dua Belas ". This was created by al-Marhum Sultan Zainal Abidin III , Sultan of Terengganu in 1884, in the compound of Kota Maziah, Kuala Terengganu.
- Malacca Steps
Steps which are made from imported China tiles are the pride and a sign of identity for the Malacca Malay community.
