Sogo And Kuala Lumpur Beggars
Easy Money In The City?

Begging is a sort of big business in Kuala Lumpur, and other major cities in the world.

Like other cities in the world, Kuala Lumpur is flocked with people from various walk of lifes... from the super-duper-riches to the less fortunate beggars. Less fortunate?? Hmmm.... that's a point to ponder...

You'd surprised to know that many beggars are richer than most of us! You see, many beggars in Kuala Lumpur are very good actors...

Once, a friend saw a crippled beggar.... sitting on the floor of a pedestrian bridge...begging for symphaty. That same afternoon, he saw that so-called crippled beggar....yes... the same person... walking around a night-market...looking rather healthy and chirpy.

Beggar You can see all kind of beggars especially during the Friday afternoon, on Sundays or Public Holidays. Their favorite place are at high human traffic points such as night markets, bus stations, monorail stations, pedestrian bridges, shopping malls' entrances etc.

From one-legged, limbless, blind, mother holding a baby to dirty small children... they're mostly controlled by syndicates that pick them up and drop them off at strategic places all over the city.

Yes... you can help the needy but please make sure the beggar is genuine or else you would just be feeding the business with your money. It seems that a day collection of a beggar from a merely 4 - 5 hours can go up to RM500!

Some beggars were seeing using handphones while nobody is looking. Some are reported using expensive cars and living in big houses.

Why are there so many beggars in the city? Is it because the city people is a generous society?? That's a question that still playing in my mind.

Beggar Take a look at this old beggar in green shirt. I saw him first in front of Kamdar Jalan TAR. Later, I saw him accross the road in front of Sogo. Hmmm.... he seems a very active and a good planner beggar.

This beggar shifted his activity to Sogo because more people go to Sogo after 11 am. More people means more symphaty and more money.

The man seems physically fine and do nothing but beg with his bowl.... not like another limbless man... who's selling tissue under a tree...and another blind woman selling tissue & snacks in front of Kamdar... Both are genuinely handicapped people but they were not simply trying to get people's symphaty... they sell things to get money.
