Telekom Museum Kuala Lumpur is a neo-classical Greek-styled 1928 building that acts as a storehouse for
various telecommunication equipment. The equipment on display here dated all the way back to pre-war years.
You can even find a set of the first type of telephone to be used in the country.
The museum exhibits also trace all 120-plus years of world telecommunications history -- from the early days of the Morse Code Telegraph with it's "ketuk-ketuk" to the cellular phones and digital networks of today.
Built in 1928 to house the Central Battery Manual Telephone Exchange, this building with eight imposing pillars as its dominant feature was gazette for conservation in 1985 after the Prime Minister stepped in to stop it from being demolished to make way for a new 26 story office complex. Over 10 million was spent in its restoration.
You can enjoy reproductions of historical photographs and printed materials, soundscapes and a wealth of artifacts as the Museum attempts to recreate the interesting and often hidden, behind-the-scene stories of the pioneers of telecommunications that have helped forge a nation.

- The Magic Wire
The sights and sounds of a jungle track leads you to the next gallery introducing the beginning of telecommunications in Malaysia sometime in the 1870's.
- Storm At Sea
The journey continues through the early years of radio communications in Malaysia. A soundscape recreating a fishing boat stranded in a raging monsoon shows the life-saving importance of radio telecommunications way back in the 20's.
- The Golden Years
The Post-War Years of 1946 mark the beginning of an infrastructure that would eventually take us into the 21st century.
- Women & Telecommunications
The all-important role of Malaysian women in telecommunications finds its origin at the switchboards of the 30's - an era weíve recreated in detail, complete with an authentic telephonist assistance centre.
- Up To Now
The experience continues up a spiral stairwell into the present, where you will aptly greeted by a robot with an invitation to explore telecommunications today.
From digital networks to satellites. Solar payphone to computers. Even a diorama of the city of Kuala Lumpur - an interactive display that gives you a peek at life in the city.
- Vision 2020
The journey ends with an insight into the continuosly changing role telecommunications will play towards achieving vision 2020 and beyond.
